Ms Jenny Szeto, Director of HKETO Berlin, speaking at the Business Luncheon in Budapest on October 25 (Budapest time).

Hungarian businesses to tap vast business potentials in Hong Kong

The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Berlin (HKETO Berlin), organised a business luncheon on 25 October in Budapest (Budapest time) for the Hungarian business community. Ms Jenny Szeto, Director of HKETO Berlin, introduced the latest developments of Hong Kong and provided insights on Hong Kong-Hungarian relations and potential business opportunities.

Under the theme “Potential Cooperation Opportunities between Hong Kong and Hungary along the Belt and Road Initiative and the Greater Bay Area”, Ms Jenny Szeto shed light on the city’s strategic advantages as well as the benefits for Hungarian businesses.

The Greater Bay Area is one of the most dynamic and economically vibrant regions in the world. With a size of only around 60% of Hungary, the region has a population of more than eight times of Hungary, amounting to 87 million. There are countless business opportunities for companies from Central Europe including Hungary that use Hong Kong as their launching pad to tap this vast market.

With its business-friendly environment and open economy, the free flow of capital and information and a huge talent pool, Hong Kong attracts organisations and enterprises of different scales from all over the world. The number of foreign companies in Hong Kong is reaching new records every year, adding up to more than 9 000 in 2021.

Ms Szeto also shared the latest updates about Hong Kong, including the lifting of the quarantine requirements for entering Hong Kong as well as the Chief Executive’s 2022 Policy Address themed “Charting a Brighter Tomorrow for Hong Kong”, which gave an outlook on the direction and priorities of Hong Kong’s economic development and prospects for this Government’s term.
