HKETO Berlin’s celebrations under the 25th Anniversary

This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) of the People’s Republic of China. On this particular occasion, HKETO Berlin will present a broad range of celebration activities under the theme of “A New Era – Stability. Prosperity. Opportunity”, displaying Hong Kong’s remarkable achievements over the past quarter century and its aspirations for a better future. Over the past 25 years, Hong Kong has faced various challenges but has always shown resilience, turned crises into opportunities and emerged stronger.

In his Budget Speech, the Financial Secretary pointed out that the rapid spread of the virus and its profound impact had disrupted the life and work of many people, and seriously affected the operations of small and medium-sized enterprises. To counteract all these and to boost the struggling economy, the Financial Secretary announced a budget of over HK$170 billion (EUR 20.5 billion) in total. This amount of commitment is about 40% higher than that in the previous two Budgets.

Getting together

To share the joy of the 25th Anniversary and to showcase Hong Kong’s talented film scene, HKETO Berlin is organising a photo exhibition on Hong Kong films named “Making Waves - Navigators of Hong Kong Cinema” from 2 to 10 June 2022. The exhibition will highlight the works of some of Hong Kong’s most iconic photographers, namely Jupiter Wong, Wong Wai Lun, Quist Tsang and Sharon Salad, and tell a unique story of Hong Kong cinema in a new artistic dimension and fascination. What’s more, HKETO Berlin will organise a variety of gala dinners and receptions in different Central and Eastern European cities in June. The evening reception in Vienna on 7 June will be the first of the series to gather friends and partners of Hong Kong to share the joy and festivity and to bear witness as Hong Kong embarks upon a new and exciting chapter. Next up is Zurich (13 June), followed by Berlin (17 June) and Geneva (30 June). To bring a taste of Hong Kong’s culinary culture to Germany, we will also organise a Street Food Festival in Berlin on 7 July.

From film to sports: promoting Hong Kong’s 25th Anniversary

With its ancient Chinese origins dating back over 2000 years, dragon boat racing has become a popular event during the three-day Züri Fäscht. HKETO Berlin has long been promoting and sponsoring cultural and sports events such as the Dragon Boat Race in Eglisau, Switzerland (24-26 June) and the Dragon Boat Cup in Berlin (3-4 September). With over 80 teams, the Eglisau Boat Race is not only the biggest race in Switzerland but also one of the oldest annual races in Europe.

Apart from sports, music and cinema are also an essential vehicle in connecting people from different countries and cultures – they transcend all boundaries. In this spirit, HKETO Berlin will sponsor and participate in the 18th edition of the Zurich Film Festival (22 September – 2 October), the 16th edition of the Five Flavours Asian Film Festival in Warsaw (November), and the 18th edition of FILMASIA in Prague (December). The Zurich Film Festival will feature a selection of Hong Kong film productions in the dedicated “Window: Hong Kong” section. Meanwhile, you will also be able to see selected movies dedicated to Hong Kong at the Five Flavours Asian Film Festival in Warsaw and the FILMASIA in Prague.

HKETO Berlin cordially invites all of you to join these exciting events, to enjoy the festivity and be part of this very special occasion for Hong Kong!
