Hong Kong ─ Poland

Hong Kong’s bilateral relationship with Poland is steady. Bilateral trade between Hong Kong and Poland amounted to about EUR 1.8 billion in 2022. In 2022, EUR 1.47 billion worth of goods, or 3.7% of the total trade between Poland and the Mainland of China, was routed through Hong Kong.

In 2022, Hong Kong’s main exports to Poland were jewellery (82.8%), articles of plastics (7.2%) and toys, games & sporting goods (6.5%). Main imports from Poland were other meat and edible meat offal, fresh, chilled or frozen (22.5%), telecommunications equipment and parts (6.6%); and semi-conductors, electronic valves and tubes, etc. (5.8%).

Strengthening ties are borne out by a number of senior governmental and trade visits in recent years. In March 2021, the HKETO Berlin, with the support from the Polish Alternative Fuels Association, organised an online seminar “European technology for a greener and carbon neutral Hong Kong – electric vehicles and waste management” with Mr Wong Kam-sing, the Secretary for the Environment, as speaker. In May 2019, a delegation from the Hong Kong Appliance Industries Association and the Hong Kong Productivity Council paid an official visit to Warsaw. In October 2016, Mr Willy Lin, Chairman of Hong Kong Productivity Council, spoke at a seminar on economic co-operation between Hong Kong and Poland in Warsaw under the Belt and Road Initiative. In the same month, a delegation of the Law Society of Hong Kong visited Warsaw and co-organised a legal seminar with the Polish Chamber of Commerce, National Council of Legal Advisers of Poland and HKETO Berlin on opportunities under the Belt and Road Initiative.

In December 2019, Dr Małgorzata Bonikowska, President of the Think Tank Centre for International Relations, visited Hong Kong and met with representatives from the government as well as from business and cultural sectors. In November 2018, the Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Technology, Mr Tadeusz Kościński, visited Hong Kong and met with the Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Ms Eliza Lee. A delegation of the Wielkopolska Region led by the Marshal, Mr Marek Woźniak, visited Hong Kong in May 2018. In January and February 2018, Mr Bartosz Michalak, Chairman of the Board of the Polish Chinese Cooperation Forum (PCCF), visited Hong Kong. In September 2017, Ms Justyna Skrzydło, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Construction, joined the Belt and Road Summit in Hong Kong as a speaker. In January 2017, Warsaw Stock Exchange led a small delegation to attend the Asian Financial Forum in Hong Kong.
