HKETO Newsletter June 2025
Dear friends,
In June, Hong Kong continues to shine on the global stage in different world rankings.
The International Institute for Management Development (IMD) has reaffirmed Hong Kong as one of the world's most competitive economies, moving up two spots to third place in its latest World Competitiveness Yearbook.
Hong Kong also ranked second in "Business efficiency", showcasing the strengths and attractiveness of Hong Kong's free, international and business-friendly environment.
According to the World Investment Report 2025 from UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Hong Kong also ranked the third in terms of foreign direct investment inflows in 2024 (US$126 billion).
In education and innovation, Hong Kong remains a powerhouse. Hong Kong is the only city with five universities in the top 100 of the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings. Our city attracts top talent worldwide, fostering a robust pool of R&D expertise.
Our government announced in February the establishment of the Hong Kong Artificial Intelligence Research and Development Institute, alongside multiple funding support for universities, research institutes and enterprises, underscoring the dedication to advancing Hong Kong's position as a global innovation and technology hub.
Hong Kong's tourism appeal is equally compelling. Cathay Pacific's new direct flight to Munich and relaunched services to Rome and Brussels this summer make it an ideal time for business travelers and tourists to explore the city's unique East-meets-West charm. Adding to its allure,
Kai Tak Sports Park, Hong Kong's premier multi-purpose sports, entertainment and mega event complex, was recently opened in March. Its state-of-the-art main stadium, featuring a retractable roof and adaptable pitch, has hosted top-tier sports events and concerts,
offering world-class facilities for recreation and entertainment, as well as an ideal venue for organising large-scale events.
