Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury promotes advantages of Hong Kong’s financial markets in Slovenia and Poland

During his visit to Slovenia and Poland in September, the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Mr Christopher Hui, promoted Hong Kong’s strengths as an international financial centre.
In Slovenia, he participated in the high-level conference “Unlocking Growth: The Future of Slovenian and European Capital Markets” in Ljubljana on 23 September. Participants included European ministers and top financial experts. During a panel discussion on “Global Practices in Capital Markets”, Mr Hui highlighted Hong Kong’s position as one of the top three international financial centres globally, emphasising the advantages provided by the real-world economy and strong investment demand from the Chinese Mainland, making Hong Kong an attractive destination for global investment.
In Poland, Mr Hui met with Polish government officials and visited the Warsaw Stock Exchange. He shared insights into the robust performance of Hong Kong’s stock market, which achieved an average daily turnover of EUR 27 billion in the first eight months of 2025. He also discussed the success of Hong Kong in wealth management and its equity market, attributing it to policy support that has enhanced the breadth and depth of the listing platform and securities market. Additionally, Mr Hui met with the management of several renowned Chinese Mainland enterprises that have established a presence in Poland, gaining a better understanding of their needs during their overseas expansion efforts.
Hong Kong showcases innovation and technological strengths in Slovakia

Hong Kong’s Innovation and Technology (I&T) sector took centre stage at the SlovakiaTech Forum, Slovakia’s premier I&T event, which was held in Košice from 16 to 19 September. Together with the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Berlin, senior representatives from the Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI), the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), and the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park joined the event. They participated in a panel discussion about public-private cooperation to drive innovation development in Hong Kong. They also took part in the Hong Kong Innovation Forum at the Technical University of Košice. The visit culminated in the signing of two Memoranda of Understanding aimed at fostering technological innovation and knowledge sharing. The agreements were inked between ASTRI and the Slovak Academy of Sciences, as well as between HKPC and the Slovak National Innovation and Technology Centre.

Hong Kong Science and Technology Park brought a group of start-ups to join AsiaBerlin Summit, an annual start-up event bridging Asia and Berlin’s innovation ecosystems held in Berlin on 22 to 24 November. The delegates also visited start-up hubs and met with local companies at different visits and networking events.
